Pharrell’s Surprising Stance on Celebrity Politics – Who’s He Calling Out?

Pharrell Williams has spoken out against celebrities who step into politics.

In his recently published interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the 51-year-old music producer — who is estranged from former music partner Chad Hugo — stated, ‘I don’t do politics. In fact, I get annoyed sometimes when I see celebrities trying to tell you [who to vote for].’

Without naming anyone in particular, he added, ‘There are celebrities that I respect that have an opinion, but not all of them. I’m one of them people [who says], “What the heck? Shut up. Nobody asked you.”‘

The Louis Vuitton Men’s Creative Director elaborated, ‘When people get out there and get self-righteous and they roll up their sleeves and s**t, and they are out there walking around with a placard — shut up!’

His statement came one day after Taylor Swift publicly endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris.

Williams did not reveal who he’s voting for but he hinted, ‘Not sure I’ll ever vote far right.’

He explained, ‘I care about my people and I care about the country, but I feel there’s a lot of work that needs to be done, and I’m really about the action.’

Following last week’s presidential debate between Harris and former President Donald Trump, Swift used social media to express support for the Vice President.

Sharing a photo with her cat in her arms, taken for her Time magazine Person of the Year cover last year, she added a lengthy Instagram caption with her 284 million followers.

She began the message, ‘Like many of you, I watched the debate tonight. If you haven’t already, now is a great time to do your research on the issues at hand and the stances these candidates take on the topics that matter to you the most. As a voter, I make sure to watch and read everything I can about their proposed policies and plans for this country.’

It follows her October 2020 endorsement of President Joe Biden.

Swift added in her September 10 caption, ‘Recently I was made aware that AI of ‘me’ falsely endorsing Donald Trump’s presidential run was posted to his site. It really conjured up my fears around AI, and the dangers of spreading misinformation. It brought me to the conclusion that I need to be very transparent about my actual plans for this election as a voter. The simplest way to combat misinformation is with the truth.’

The Eras music artist added unequivocally, ‘I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election.’

On Tuesday, Billie Eilish and her brother Finneas O’Connell joined the political discourse in a joint statement.

They announced they are backing Kamala Harris for president in the upcoming election.

The pair posted a video on social media to mark National Voter Registration Day.

‘We are voting for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz because they are fighting to protect our reproductive freedom, our planet and our democracy,’ the 22-year-old Grammy and Oscar winning artist said.

‘We can’t let extremists control our lives, our freedoms and our future,’ O’Connell added.

He said ‘the only way to stop them and the dangerous Project 2025 agenda is to vote and elect Kamala Harris.’

‘Vote like your life depends on it because it does,’ Eilish said.
