Trent Alexander-Arnold breaks silence after reaction to Liverpool substitution vs Brentford

Trent Alexander-Arnold was substituted in the 72nd minute of Liverpool’s 2-0 Premier League victory over Brentford on Sunday, with the right-back appearing unhappy

Trent Alexander-Arnold has shared his thoughts on social media following Liverpool’s solid 2-0 triumph over Brentford. Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah secured the win in Arne Slot’s first competitive match as boss at Anfield.

Despite the team’s success, Alexander-Arnold seemed less than pleased about being substituted before the match ended. Slot had a word with the right-back after he was taken off 18 minutes from time, and even post-match, the England star didn’t seem too happy.

Slot addressed the media post-game, downplaying any talk of tension with Liverpool’s vice-captain, whose contract is up next summer. He justified his decision to sub Alexander-Arnold, saying, “I understand. Every player wants to play 90 minutes but I don’t think the players who were on the bench from the start were really happy with the choice I made.

“Trent came back from national team where at the beginning of the tournament (European Championships with England) he played quite a lot and then he didn’t. He had a few weeks off and then came back.

“It’s only his third game and we have to take care of him as well because we need him for the whole season and not only the first two games. What a good thing for me is that I have a very good backup with Conor (Bradley) as well. We are taking care of Trent, but he played a good game.”

Alexander-Arnold took to Instagram to celebrate Liverpool’s latest triumph against Brentford, expressing his gratitude for the fans’ support with a caption that read: “First win at home. Fans were incredible as always.” The post came alongside snaps of him leaving the field, applauding the crowd, and taking a corner.

During Liverpool’s first match of the season against Ipswich Town, he also got an early rest when the new manager Slot gave Conor Bradley a run, substituting in for the full-back in the 77th minute.

Looking ahead, Liverpool are gearing up for a trip to Old Trafford to face Manchester United next Sunday ahead of the fast-approaching September international break.
