Tesla launches textile interior option for Model 3 RWD in Mexico

Tesla’s cheapest car in its lineup today just became more affordable in Mexico. As could be seen in Mexico’s Model 3 order page, Tesla has rolled out a new textile interior option for the all-electric sedan’s base Rear Wheel Drive (RWD) variant.

Tesla implemented a number of changes to Mexico’s Model 3 RWD. Immediately noticeable are the vehicle’s seats, which are made of textile instead of vegan leather. The textile seats are also only available in gray. Features like heated and cooled seats, as well as heated steering wheel, are unavailable in Mexico’s new Model 3 RWD as well.

Apart from these, the base Model 3 in Mexico is equipped with acoustic glass only on its front windows, similar to the previous generation Model 3. The secondary display for rear passengers has also been removed, and the ambient lights for the vehicle are limited to white.

As could be seen in Tesla Mexico’s order page for the Model 3 sedan, the updated RWD variant with textile interior could be purchased for MXD 749,000 (USD 40,000). This price is MXD 50,000 (USD 2,670) lower than the Model 3 RWD’s previous price in Mexico, which stood at MXD 799,000 (USD42,730). Estimated deliveries for the new Model 3 RWD are listed for August to September 2024.

Reactions to the new Model 3 base variant in Mexico have been fairly positive on social media, with some users stating that the lower price of the vehicle is worth its missing features. Others also noted that Mexico’s general weather is actually a good match for a Tesla with a textile interior and no heated seats or steering wheel.

Tesla has not explained why it released a base Model 3 variant in Mexico with a more affordable interior. That being said, it is quite encouraging to see Tesla exploring cheaper interior options for its vehicles, especially since the company’s upcoming vehicles, such as the Robotaxi and next-generation vehicle, are expected to be designed for maximum cost efficiency.
