One Piece: Oda Confirms Luffy Is Yet To Reach His Peak

The Egghead Island Arc of One Piece has been spectacular for the fans to witness for various reasons.

For one, fans got to see a lot of exciting revelations being made about the technology of both the past and the present, which they were waiting for ever since Vegapunk’s name was first brought up. At the same time, fans also got quite a lot of lore regarding the past, which Vegapunk had researched himself.

All this was centered around some of the most exciting battles the fans have seen in the series. Of course, Egghead was not a massive arc in terms of what it has to offer to a saga in the grand scheme of things. It was only the beginning arc in a major Saga, which makes it an appetizer. There are better things to come, and stronger enemies to face, which means that Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates have to get stronger later down the line. While Luffy has officially become a Yonko, he is still far from reaching his peak as a pirate, and that is something that Oda has highlighted once again in One Piece chapter 1122.

Luffy’s Current Level Of Strength

Controls All Three Haki Types

Has An Awakened Devil Fruit

Luffy is one of the Four Emperors of the Sea and certainly an incredibly powerful pirate. He must not be underestimated at any cost, and the fact is that only a handful of individuals in the world of One Piece are strong enough to stand their ground against him. Luffy cannot be beaten easily in battle, and that is expected of anyone holding the position of a Yonko. In terms of power, Luffy has many abilities up his sleeve that makes him special. For one, he has the power of an incredibly strong Devil Fruit. This devil fruit is the Gomu Gomu no Mi. It must be said that this Devil Fruit is powerful because Luffy made it powerful and awakened it. Otherwise, it is a plain fruit that can cause quite a lot of problems to the user. Luffy trained in the art of utilizing this power and mastered it completely. With that, he has become a formidable force on the seas over the years, and he continues to learn more about his powers.

This is it! This is my peak…Gear 5! – Luffy

In the Wano Country arc, he awakened his devil fruit as he fought and defeated Kaido, using the power of Gear 5, which he calls the peak of his abilities. It must be remembered that Luffy calls Gear 5 his peak in terms of how far he can go with Devil Fruit transformations. In terms of level of strength, he can still figure out ways to get better using the same powers, which means that there are still higher levels to attain.

Devil Fruit powers certainly take Luffy very far in One Piece, but there is more to his powers than just that. For one, fans know that Luffy is an incredible user of Haki. This power was taught to him by Rayleigh during the 2-year timeskip, and he has mastered it completely since. Luffy is an advanced user of all three types of Haki, which means that he can see the future, deal internal damage with his Haki, as well as utilize the infusion of Conqueror’s Haki. All three of Luffy’s Haki are very dangerous, and if that wasn’t enough, then fans also need to consider the fact that the potency of Luffy’s Haki is absolutely incredible. Combining his Haki and Devil Fruit abilities, he was able to overpower even Kaido and defeat him in battle for good. Luffy is in a league of his own, and this certainly makes him worthy of being a Yonko. However, while all that is absolutely fascinating for his character growth, he still is not the strongest and there are many individuals whose capabilities far surpass those of his own.

The Level Luffy Needs To Reach

Luffy Needs To Surpass Joy Boy But Needs More Power For That

When one speaks of the level that Luffy has to attain by the end of One Piece, they would simply look at characters such as Roger, Whitebeard, or Shanks. Ideally, that is what fans would expect Luffy to be like.

However, the recent One Piece chapter has completely flipped the script and showcased that Luffy has to reach an even higher level in One Piece. One Piece chapter 1122 showcased Joy Boy’s ability properly in a flashback for the very first time. Joy Boy was a monstrously powerful individual, and just like Luffy, he held the power of the Nika fruit. Clearly, Joyboy was the strongest of his time, and much of his strength was also derived from his incredible Haki. The very first display of Joy Boy’s Haki was shown to the fans in One Piece chapter 1122, and it was truly terrifying. The Haki Joy Boy had was stored inside Emet, and when he went on to utilize it, he was able to knock out almost all the Marines around Egghead, and, more importantly, negate the Yokai transformations of all the Elders.

Even the summoning circles were completely negated, sending the other Elders back to Marijoa, leaving Saturn behind, reeling. On top of that, Joy Boy’s Haki was strong enough to split in the skies on its own, and cause utter devastation around Egghead. Clearly, his Haki is far above the likes of Luffy, or even that of Shanks, Roger, or Whitebeard. Joy Boy is a monstrously powerful individual and fans know Luffy, if he wishes to fulfill what Joyboy couldn’t, has to reach a similar level of strength.

Emet, I’ll store my strongest Haki in you! – Joy Boy

This implies that Luffy still has to grow stronger in terms of his Haki, because, as things stand right now, he doesn’t have enough power to negate the Yokai transformations of the Five Elders, or split the skies by himself. Luffy’s Haki is very strong, but it isn’t the strongest, and that is what he needs to look at next. This is where Shanks comes in and perhaps, in his fight against him, the superiority of his Conqueror’s Haki will finally be explained to the fans.

Readers simply need to sit back and enjoy One Piece as it moves forward, knowing that there are high levels for Luffy to reach and bigger power-ups for the fans to see, which makes the future even more exciting, to say the least. As One Piece edges closer to the Elbaf Arc, bigger fights will ensue, and Luffy is going to get closer to Joyboy’s level of strength. Hopefully, fans will get to see bigger feats from him later down the line, as what he has showcased right now is clearly not enough to topple the Government.
