Tesla has finally launched Actually Smart Summon (ASS) after years of delays. It has also rolled out another feature called Dumb Summon.
Released in the most recent Software Update for Teslas, Actually Smart Summon will allow owners to literally summon their vehicle from a parking spot to a particular location nearby.
The best example of its ideal usage would be to pick you up from the front of the grocery store instead of hauling a cart full of groceries throughout the parking lot.
Instead, your car will come to your location, configured by the Tesla App.
Dumb Summon will let you move the vehicle forward or backward, adjusting the final location of the vehicle.
The release notes state:
“Buckle up for the ride of your life, except, surprise! You’re not in the car. ASS (Actually Smart Summon) allows your vehicle to come to you, or head to a spot that you choose, all on its own. It’s like magic but with more tech and less hand-waving.
Additionally, Dumb Summon allows you to move your Tesla forward or back with simple controls directly in your Mobile App.
To use, open your Tesla app, hit the Summon tab, and get a live feed from your car’s cameras to guide your supervision.
You can halt your journey anytime by just letting go of the button. See your Owner’s Manual for additional details.
ASS and Dumb Summon should only be used in parking lots or driveways. Keep an eye on your car and its surroundings at all times. Stay vigilant, especially around the fast and the furious (people, bikes, and other cars). You are still responsible for your vehicle, so watch as it drives and stop it if necessary.
Note: ASS requires the Tesla mobile app version 4.36.6 or later.”
As of now, ASS is only available to those who have vehicles equipped with Hardware 4, and Tesla nor its CEO Elon Musk have confirmed whether the feature will be available on Hardware 3 vehicles.
It should be available on Hardware 3 vehicles in the coming weeks, just as the most recent builds of the Full Self-Driving suite also made their way to those vehicles, just in a delayed fashion compared to Hardware 4.
