It may come as a surprise to many football fans to learn that Virgil Van Dijk and Kevin De Bruyne share a close friendship despite being rivals on the pitch.
The Manchester City midfield maestro and Liverpool captain appear to be the best of friends this summer in Spin even though the pair have never played alongside one another or haven’t had a clear opportunity to build a relationship.
So where did this budding friendship come from? – where were the foundations of this friendship built if the only time they have interacted is when they are playing against each other in the Premier League.
It appears that the duo struck up an unlikely friendship thanks to their love for dance/electronic music, more specifically because they both like the same DJ.
This was on display this weekend as the two partied at the famous party venue Ushuaia Ibiza to watch Scottish DJ Calvin Harris play his set.
Kevin De Bruyne and Virgil Van Dijk have continued their holiday tradition of watching Calvin Harris in Ibiza together
Harris took to Instagram to share a picture of the trio, sharing it with his 11.4million followers with the caption @ushuaiaibiza with a sun emoji.
This is not the first time the pair have linked up on holidays, the Netherlands and Belgium internationals have been holidaying together in Ibiza since 2022.
Since then the unlikely duo have been on multiple holidays to Ibiza to support DJ friend.
They were first spotted partying on the Balearic island together back in 2022, where their tradition of watching the Grammy award winner began.
In 2023, they once again travelled to the Spanish holiday destination, this time being joined by other Premier League players Nathan Ake and Marcus Rashford.
The pair first linked up at Calvin Harris’ DJ set back in 2022
This is the third year in a row that the two have linked up during their summer vacations
Kevin De Bruyne spoke about their off-field friendship back in April 2022 after their two club teams clashed at the Etihad in the Premier League.
Further alluding at how their improbable friendship rose, the Manchester City midfielder revealed that their kids go to the same school and like to hang out with each other.
‘I know Virgil… me and Virgil see each other a lot. Our children go to the same school and they like to play together, so it was just a friendly chat’ the Belgian said.
