One Piece: Blackbeard’s Upcoming War With The Navy, Explained

One Piece is currently in the Final Saga and it is here that the biggest of players that Oda has been saving building up for years are going to show their true worth.

More recently, One Piece saw the conclusion of the Egghead Island Arc, and before that happened, fans got a proper glimpse of the major players that are going to drive the story forward from here onwards. Of course, when it comes to the major players, Blackbeard is always going to be in the conversation, because he is a significantly powerful individual who will serve as a big obstacle in Luffy’s path.

At the same time, his dreams and ambitions are there for all to see as well, which means that Blackbeard will make great advancements in the story over the next few arcs. Given that Oda has already stated that the Final Saga will take fans all over the world and not just focus on the Strawhat Pirates, there are going to be significant developments regarding the character of Blackbeard that fans will see in the story soon enough, and, there is potentially going to be a war that he will be involved in very soon.

Blackbeard’s Plan Right Now At Hachinosu

Making Hachinosu A Country

Once the Final Saga of One Piece began, fans knew that Blackbeard was going to be involved in the story in one way or another. Before the events of Wano ended, Blackbeard had invaded the Island of Amazon Lily, where the Pirate Empress Boa Hancock was. His goal was to steal her devil fruit and add it to his own arsenal. The fact that he sought out this Devil Fruit himself just goes to show how powerful it is. Regardless, things didn’t work out for Blackbeard the way he wanted. However, he did get a trump card that he wanted to use his way and that was Koby. Taking Koby back to the Pirate Island, Blackbeard wanted to blackmail the Navy. He clearly mentioned his goal and, in simple terms, he wanted to be King. Of course, fans know that Blackbeard’s grand ambition is to be the king of the world. But, for now, he’s focusing on the smaller things, and he simply wants to be the king of Hachinosu.

I want to become a King! – Blackbeard

The only problem is that Hachinosu is not recognized as a proper country. That is precisely what he wanted to change. Essentially, Blackbeard wanted to strike a deal with the Navy that allowed him to become the King of Hachinosu, with the island being recognized as an official country, and, in exchange, the Navy could have their Hero of the next generation, Koby.

Those who waver…are weak. – Monkey D. Garp

This plan did not succeed, because Koby was rescued from the clutches of the Blackbeard Pirates when the Commodore went out to deal with Law and steal his Poneglyphs. While Blackbeard did that, Garp attacked the Pirate Island and saved Koby. However, in the process, Garp was gravely injured himself and most likely taken prisoner. This certainly doesn’t bode well for the reputation of the Blackbeard Pirates. However, when looking at it from a different perspective, this is actually a boon for them and helps them propel their plans even further and at a much faster rate.

The Capture Of The Navy Hero Garp

The Navy Hero Is Now A Pawn For Blackbeard To Use

The capture of the Navy Hero Garp is significant in One Piece. For one, fans know that Garp’s fate hangs in the balance. There is officially no confirmation of the fact that Garp is still alive. However, if Garp were dead, Oda would have clarified it in the story. Garp is most likely going to be alive, and this means that he will be used as a plot device later down the line in One Piece. Garp managed to save Koby, but he left himself behind. This essentially means that Blackbeard will find himself with an even bigger trump card than he had previously. There is absolutely no denying the fact that Koby was a trump card for him to utilize against the World Government to blackmail them. But, Koby is too small of a prize for the Navy to give kingly status to a mere pirate by handing a country over to him.

Listen, you guys are the future of the Marines! – Garp

Garp, on the other hand, is a much bigger prize. Garp is the Hero of the Marines and has been for decades upon decades. He is everything that the Navy represents, and in the entire history of this organization, he is the strongest of them all. The World Government simply cannot give up their symbol so easily, and if they did, their reputation around the world will be tarnished.

They simply cannot sit by and do nothing about the capture of Garp, especially if it is confirmed that Garp is alive when Blackbeard does eventually make contact with them. This is why his capture is very important when it comes to driving the plot of Hachinosu forward.

The Navy’s Assault On The Pirate Island And War With Blackbeard

The Navy Could Attack Blackbeard In A Show Of Force

There are only two directions the plot can go in regards to Garp and the Pirate Island when one thinks about it. The first way out for the Navy is to simply accept Blackbeard’s terms and exchange Garp by giving Blackbeard kingly status and a country to rule. But, this would ruin the reputation in the eyes of the world. Not only would they be bowing down to the request of a pirate, but, they would be handing him a country and showing that they could do absolutely nothing about it. They also cannot let Blackbeard act with impunity, because if they did, and Garp was allowed to be in the care of the Blackbeard Pirates, then, it would show the world that the symbol of the Navy was breakable after all and that they cannot protect the people, leading to unrest and potentially even Civil War.

Koby the hero, I want to turn this island…this Pirate Island…into a full-fledged nation.

As such, the Navy is only left with one option and that is to lead an assault on the Pirate Island, destroy the Blackbeard Pirates, and secure the escape of Monkey D. Garp. This is certainly not going to be an easy task for the Marines, but it is one that they must take on. This task should be led by individuals such as Sengoku and Tsuru, given that they are the closest colleagues and friends that Garp had.

Regardless of whether the Elders want do this or not, Sengoku, the General Inspector of the Navy, must take things into his own hands and rescue his best friend from the clutches of death itself. The Marines need to take this stand if they are to counter the pirates and the threat they represent in the future of One Piece, and that is precisely why it is important for a war to start on the Pirate Island.

All fans need to do is wait, and they’re likely to see an all-out war. Thousands upon thousands of pirates will fight against similar numbers of Marines. Significant fighters, such as Sengoku, will showcase their strength and it should certainly end with the return of the Hero Garp.
